Mark Allen's Dream Journal - July, 2002
*note: Date of dream entry refers to day before,the date of the night I went to sleep and the dream I had into the next day's date.

7/3/02:

    I'm in some weird giant house that looks like it is in Los Angeles. The house is fantastic - a massive ranch style home with giant window walls, huge natural rock fireplaces, plush white carpet, weird concrete furniture with cushions - really nice. I live there with my parents but somehow I have avoided seeing them for two years even though we all live in the same house - weird. It's like they live on another wing. At one point I go to sleep and when I wake up I see that some of the lights I had on in the living room have been turned off. I freak out. Is someone secretly in the house? I think my parents are out. I get up and look around the big house. I suddenly remember that Jim is there with me, it was him that turned the lights off. I go back to sleep . As I am sleeping on the couch I see that Jim is going through all kinds of my stuff... looking in closets, going through papers. Every time I wake up he is in another part of the room going through stuff - he always stops and looks at me and then goes back to what he is doing. We never speak the whole time. It is then that I realize the living room kind of looks like Dave Doorknob's childhood home living room. I also realize that our living room looks like part of L.E.R. Schimelpfenig Library in Plano, Texas.
    It is night time now and the inside of the house is pretty dark. The moonlight is coming in through the windows. I see and hear some kids that seem to be in out yard and are rough housing and play fighting. They are little black girls with their hair tied up in that way little black girls do with the hair divided into different part sections and clear beads and hair ties with little transparent marble looking things. One of the girls has another girl in a head lock and has banged her against one of the big glass windows in the front. They are laughing. As I hear them I say to Jim "I'd better go check that out!" and Jim agrees. I start to sit up from the couch then I realize I'm scared to go to the front of the house because I might run into my mother. I can kind of "see" the entrance to my parent's massive bedroom and can see their room. I see the bed is empty and everything in the room and the area of the house is dark. I hear this ominous music playing as my "dream camera eye" does a slow close up on the dark, empty bed. I think a breeze is blowing through their empty bedroom. It's creepy and desolate.

    All I remember is being at some function in Denton, Texas (my college town) that was held in an abandoned Pizza Hut near Fry street by Mistress Formika.

    Memories of the dream are really vague. I know Cloris Leechman was in the dream, or the subject of her. As well as blueberries... something about their dark juice. Also I remember looking at a DVD box or poster for the old movie "Attack of the Giant Leeches".

    All I remember is this image of a guy's face. He is young, tan, has beard stubble, looks Italian and like a model. He has big sunglasses on. It looks like a spread in a fashion magazine. I may even be looking at a photo - his face is kind of angled and the color picture is kind of grain-y. There is this strip of white plastic tape with red letters on it being placed over the guy's mouth. It looks like police crime scene tape except it is white with red letters rather than yellow with black letters. It is being placed over his mouth as if to censor or silence him. The writing on the tape is in Italian.

7/8/02:

    Very long dream... but all I remember are these scenarios:
    Something involving me talking to John Waters. I seemed to be hanging around him - I think we were at a fancy restaurant with round tables that had red tablecloths on them. He carried a black cane with a silver handle. We were talking about stuff. John is smiling a lot as he talks but saying really angry, mean stuff and I am confused about his intentions and what he really feels.
    Then I was in Hong Kong with Mistress Formika. We were sitting back stage at some show and were talking about something.
    Then I was "witnessing" some sort of battle on a battlefield. I seem to be high overhead looking down on two armies have a battle on a grass field. It looked like something from the past, like a medieval era war. The field had grass on it that was brown in some patches. Some of the army men seemed to be in some sort of armor and were on horses with lances, I think. It was hard to see from so high up. The battle almost looked kind of choreographed too. Then later I am witnessing a kind of "close up" of about five of the army men in a circle, hugging. I think the battle is over. They look like some kind of alien creatures or something. They are all very fat and have blue skin. They have warthog heads - like they are half human half warthogs, with snouts and mouth horns. They have these bright red hair patches that grow off the top of their heads like broom bristles. They have some kind of war clothes on. When they hug, these green belts they have on all start to glow and make this green, fluorescent-looking light emit all around them.

7/9/02:

    Can't remember much... I do remember some scenario where there were zero's - like the number (0) - floating over my bed in the air and I could see them. They were white and kind of glowing - they always seemed to be facing me, like I never saw one turn and become just a little vertical flat line (were they in 3-D or 2-D?). I got the impression that they had been removed from sentences or math problems somewhere and were gathering over my bedspread. They kind of hovered about five inches over the royal blue comforter - and when I shifted the comforter they kind of adjusted and moved in "waves".

7/10/02:

    I am riding my bike across the Williamsburg Bridge towards Brooklyn. In the center of the bridge, a large section of the upper level (which now is the walkway and under construction) is missing. It does not look like a disaster - like it's just gone suddenly or has been removed. Cars can still pass on the lower level, but are stopped anyway by construction workers and cops trying to control the small crowd. A lot of people have gathered on the walkway on both sides of the "hole" on the upper part. They are all looking towards Manhattan - looking uptown - and pointing. Like watching something. I get the impression that they are all looking at some kind of disaster.

7/11/02:

    I'm in some giant hotel. There seems to be all kinds of activity in it. It's a huge hotel - and I don't know what city I'm in. I am with these people I don't know. We are in this shoe store on one level of the hotel. What's weird is that we are being held there against our will by these really scary people from the FBI or maybe they are mafia or maybe both I'm not sure. There is one woman and about four guys - they are all dressed very nice and they are armed. The woman kind of looks like the secret government woman with the metal hand from the movie "Repo Man". I'm not sure where they are from but they tracked us down here and it's big time scary - they mean us real harm. It seems like they are going to make sure we don't leave until some point, like their boss shows up or something - and then they are going to kidnap us and take us off somewhere and something awful is going to happen. Right outside the open door to the little shoe store are people walking around. All of us are afraid to yell for help because the people holding us there have guns and we know they are not afraid to just shoot us if one of us yells out. At one point some people come into the store and start looking around. The FBI/mafia people put their hands over their weapons and look at us like "Be cool..." I take out a little piece of paper and write on it "Help us... this is not a joke. We are being held here against our will by these people and they are going to kill us. They are FBI." As I am writing it I see one of the thugs sees me doing it. He knows what I'm up to and that I plan on giving the note to one of the customers. I start to pretend that what I am writing is just little doodles and that I'm just drawing for fun or out of boredom... so my letters on the note have all kinds of curly q's and scribbles all on them. It's like the sentence I wrote is now in some sort of code that looks like a child's doodle pad or a note pad that people keep by the phone to doodle on and draw nonsensical shapes on while talking on it. It makes no sense - I hope when I give it to the person they can read it and take it seriously. They will probably think I'm just nuts. The mafia guy is still watching me like a hawk right over me as I draw - he totally knows what I'm up to. I remember thinking that if another person in my group were to give the same customer a similar note that we might have a better chance of getting out of this. As soon as the customer walks by me (a woman) I take the note and hold it out in her direction, ready to tap her on the shoulder. The mafia guy reaches over and yanks it out of my hand and says "I'll take that thank you very much!" and crumples it in his hand. He looks knowingly at the mafia woman and they both smile.
    Then a scenario shift: I'm still in the hotel but it seems to be another time and another situation. I guess I got out of that situation earlier. There appears to be a convention of amish or maybe mormon people in the hotel. They don't dress like amish but they dress very strangely, like out-of-date clothes and clothes that look like they are from a second hand shop. I know they are devoutly religious in some way. Maybe they are Jehovah's witnesses. I am with some guy I don't know in a hallway of the hotel and we are meeting another guy. They guy we are meeting is an older, middle aged guy in a suit. He shows up and we make plans to split up and meet again the next morning. The religious people are all around us - it's very busy. The middle age guy says "OK goodnight I'm going to my room." and we say goodnight and get into an elevator. The elevator is huge and brightly lit with fluorescent lights. In the elevator two of the religious people; a woman and her daughter. The woman is dressed in this ratty baby blue cardigan sweater and a long gray stretch fabric skirt and black ballet shoes. Her hair is dyed very dark black and is in this ridiculous curled up style that looks like it was severely curled with a curling iron. The curls run all the way down the length of the hair and look like they are sprayed rock hard with hair spray. It looks like a wig. A joke wig. My friend, once we get on the elevator and see this, starts laughing hysterically at it, they trying to hide his laugher. I am doing the same. The woman and her daughter ignore us - or I don't know if they even notice us - and they keep just pushing buttons on the elevator. When the two people get off, I see out the open door that the middle aged guy is leaving his room to go out for the evening - I guess he isn't going to bed after all.
    Then a scenario shift: I am with Guillaume in this very small movie theater inside the hotel. The back of the theater has an open door where you see people in the hotel walking around - kind of like the shoe store. So it's not entirely dark in the theater. The movie we are watching is about some guy who dresses up in some silly bat costume and breaks into people's rooms in this very hotel and tries to scare them. Guillaume and I are the only ones in the theater. When the movie is over we start having sex in our seats. We use our popcorn and big cups of soda ice.
    Then a scenario shift. I am in my room in the hotel. It is late at night. My room is filled with stuff - like I have been living in the room a long time. I am shutting the blinds on the window near my bed and reflecting on the days events... what a day. I am going to bed.

7/12/02:

    I'm in my old church that I used to have to go to constantly in Texas as a child. It a massive traditional Southern Baptist chapel. Giant, while walls, balcony all the way around, big white columns, baptismal thing in the back up front filled with water, brown wood pews and red, red carpet. I seem to live there in the chapel like it's my house. Everything is always very dim. I also see that I can kind of "sense" that the inside of Collin Creek Mall (a mall in Texas I used to hang out in) kind of occupies the big chapel space - kind of like a superimposed photograph. When I'm up on one of the high balconies I can look out into the big open space of the dim chapel and see - like a super imposed image of the levels and stores and fountains of Collin Creek Mall - very weird. Like I inhabit both spaces at once. I think my mom lives there in the double weird space with me somewhere.
    I get the impression that there are these tubes that connect the space to Jim in NYC, and these tubes transfer information to me. Jim is sending me parts of music. We are writing ten songs together and there are ten tubes. Jim is sending each part of each song that he has worked on through each tube. I look down and see each tube leads to it's own 4-track recorder on the red carpet/tile of the chapel/mall floor. I hear my mom in the background somewhere saying "Mark what are you doing?"

7/13/02:

    There is some weird place I am living in - like a series of buildings. The buildings are in a weird, flat, urban area. There is a big creek that runs behind one of the buildings that I always see, also a freeway overpass that seems to pass over part of the tow. There are a lot of chain link fences around. In some places there are tree areas but mostly it's flat. I seem to live in one of the buildings with these two girls I don't know. The residence seems temporary, almost like I'm in school. There is an art class or something of the sort in another one of the buildings that I attend every day. In the class is this blond guy that apparently already has quite a reputation in the art scene in this little town. Everyone seems to think he's going to be a famous artist, yet he is still in school. He is extremely cocky and has the strange personality combination of wanting attention but is also loner. He just walks in and out of the class whenever he wants and yells things over the teacher's lecturing just because he can - and the teachers always let him because they think he's going to be famous so he's a "special case".
    I am in direct competition with this guy in the class. No one says so, except for my close friends (the two girls that are my roommates) but everyone has their eyes on the two of us. The blond guy seems very aware of my actions and seems to kind of subtly set up scenarios to "psyche" me out or test my nerve. He never speaks to me though.
    At one point in the class it turns out that we both just happen to be creating the exact same art piece for the class project. The project is a re-creation of a photograph of the Professor, Mary Ann and Ginger taken on the set of "Gilligan's Island" while it was being shot. The Professor is sitting on a wood bench with a table in one of the grass huts and Mary Ann and Ginger are standing beside him. They all look very serious. You can tell it is not a still from the TV show, but a picture snapped at some point by someone on the set. You can see the shadows from the camera's flash and the actors appear to be somewhat out of character. I think the reproduced photo was found in some TV memorabilia magazine. Anyway, for some reason me and the blond guy have both, just by coincidence, chosen to re-create this exact photo using whatever medium we want. How that impossible coincidence happened I have no idea.
    So I go to the classroom every day, sometimes twice a day, at night too, and think about how I am going to re-create this photo. The blond guy always has a big space in the classroom taken over with all his notebooks of notes and working materials. Even when he's not there. I get the impression that he has them laid out because he wants me to look at them, but maybe it's just my own self-centeredness - I don't know. At one point one of my roommates is in the classroom with me and she is telling me that our other roommate, whom I just realized is Kate Pierson from The B-52's, should pose as Ginger in my re-creation photograph - because from the side, and with the right wig and exact dress, she looks just like the photo. For some reason, our roommate Kate, is living with us because she just had a bad break or something and is kind of laying low. My roommate says this will be good to lift her spirits. I kind of reluctantly agree and walk out of the classroom. I am angry because the weird competition going on with the blond guy is keeping me from concentrating fully on my project. It's frustrating.
    I walk to another part of the school that has this fancy, dimly lit restaurant with a pool right next to it. I go inside and jump in the pool. There are these two woman who work at the pool and who keep handing me towels and telling me the hours the pool is open while I swim and stuff. Suddenly I notice that the pool isn't filled with water, but is filled with this off-white, translucent, blobby goo-like stuff. One of the women at the pool tells me that if I hold up handfuls of the goo in the air while swimming in it, and then look upwards as I let the goo drop out of my hand onto my face, that I will see "the perfect new work of art" or "the next big art movement" that will blow away the blond guy and, hence, be the solution to my problems. It seems the goo in the pool is a kind of soothsayer that can predict the future of the art world. So I do it... when the goo runs out of my hands towards my face, it always makes these scary ghost-like images... like a ghost with a face that has black eyes and a mouth with sharp teeth that is coming towards me. I do it several times and it always makes a similar shape. I'm like "Whatever..." and I get out of the pool and go back into the art room. I see that the blond guy has a copy of the Gilligan's Island photo now laying amongst his stuff. He is just walking out of the room as I enter.
    Then it's the next morning and I wake up and decide to go jogging. I see that the blond guy is also jogging. I get the impression that he doesn't jog but is doing it just to "psyche" me out. I get this impression because he is following my exact jogging route. Sometimes running way ahead of me, then ducking into a corner and then jumping right out in front of me, running in the perpendicular direction, when I pass him and causing us to almost collide. He keeps doing stuff like this. Am I a paranoid schizophrenic or is he really doing this stuff? I am so over the art project at this point.
    Then a scenario shift: I am at the Hamilton Fish Recreation Center pool in NYC. The pool seems to be indoors inside a giant room rather than outside (which it usually is). There are a bunch of kids around and adult swimming instructors. I have my clothes on and am walking by the pool and seem to be leaving. I see at the corner by the edge of the pool is this little girl and a female swimming instructor, both crouched down - doing something. When I get closer I hear the instructor tell the little girl "You need 48 separate injections." I look down and see the instructor has a fishing tackle box willed with little syringes all lined up in neat rows. I get the impression that all the kids at the pool have some medical condition and this is their day out and that the swimming instructors are also their nurses and caretakers. I look at the little girl and she looks unfazed by this. She is looking at her thumb, apparently where all the injections are going to take place. I look at the little girl and say "Don't worry, after the first few, you will stop feeling them... it's really not that bad!" and the girl just looks at me with a blank expression. The instructor says something like "See? This man says it won't hurt!" and the little girl doesn't respond. I walk away, towards the exit doors. Just before I reach the door, I feel this great force pulling me backwards. It pulls me back and I land on the floor, on my back, with my arms above my head - palms up and flat on the tile floor. For some reason I can't get up. My hands are clasped together almost like they are handcuffed. Someone or something is doing something with my hands but for some reason the same force that pulled me back is also preventing me from looking towards my hands. I start to feel these pin pricks on my thumb just below where the fingernail begins. I keep feeling them over and over and it hurts - plus I can't seem to get up or move at all. People are walking all around me and don't even seem to notice. I finally am able to look up and I see that it is the little girl doing this. She has amazing powers or strength and is able to hold me frozen in this position on the floor while she slowly jabs the syringe needle into my thumb over and over. The little girl just has a casual expression on her face while she does this. I start to get the impression that the needles are infected with HIV and I really start to panic and struggle. I can't get out of her grasp.

7/14/02:

    I dreamed I was watching Madonna perform some show in some huge, fantastic theater. It was the "True Blue" era Madonna - she had her short platinum hair up in that kind of Princess Diana 80's style. She was wearing a long white dress and had lots of make up on, she was always smiling really big. The theater had about fifteen balconies and was huge. The weird thing is that the theater had this weird lighting thing that made it pitch black inside, so dark that you could not see your hand in front of your face. There was just one spotlight that followed Madonna as she danced around alone and sang. That was the only thing you could see - and she could see. The stage was very complicated and was this series of intersecting circles, each one on a different level. Since Madonna couldn't see where she was going, she had this radio transmitter in her ear that had a guy's voice on it telling her where to step next. She also had this kind of glowing green map thing implanted on the retina of her right eye. She could watch the map and watch a red dot on it to see where she was on the stage as she moved. It was very hi-tech. The theater used this inky black, spotlight only thing to do all kinds of visual tricks while Madonna was performing... like she would disappear out of the spotlight, the spotlight would go out, then go on in another part of the theater far away and she would magically be there. The audience would always be like "Ohhhhh!" while sitting in pitch black darkness. At one point I notice that Madonna has this smile plastered on her face and is dancing but you can see she is mouthing the words "I don't know where I'm going" to the guy on the radio transmitter. I woke up from this dream singing the song "True Blue".

7/15/02:

    I am in another weird urban area I don't recognize. I seem to living in this really big building with a girl. The building has all kinds of different levels, rooms that look like studios and are filled with junk, and other big rooms that have rows of desks with computers and stacks of papers all over them. There is an area of the building that seems to have an indoor stream, or did - because it's all dried up. Another area has this series of glass walls and stone walls that make this kind of indoor/outdoor garden thing near one of the building's entrances - it's nice, lush green grass and all.
    There is some guy visiting us, a kind of fat guy with glasses who is really into science fiction. He is in one of the studio rooms with me and is looking at this gigantic, oversize photo book that I made of different people's amateur photos of U.F.O.'s. The book is about 5 feet x 5 feet and has a big spiral binding. The photos are in bright color. We are looking at the book and I am amazed at some of the photos.
    Suddenly I remember to go "say hello" or something to someone upstairs in the office room - for some reason I have to go up there. It seems like there was someone up there working at one of the desks that I need to go up and see, that I had seen earlier and that I promised I would "check in on" a few hours later, which is now. I think this person was Bryan but I can't exactly remember. I go upstairs and as I enter the office room I seem to be floating along the floor of the office, all the way to the back where Bryan is. As I am approaching the desk that Bryan is at, I think to myself "I am going to concentrate really hard and imagine that Bryan is actually an alien... let's see if my mind can convince my eyes and conscious mind that he is one so that I actually see him as one." So I do. I concentrate really hard on trying to see him as an alien as I approach him. As I get up to him... I see this pale white-skinned, giant headed, big black eyes, skinny limbed alien behind the desk instead of Bryan. It sends chills down my spine. I'm like "Whoa... it worked! Or is Bryan really an alien?" as I float up to alien Bryan his face slowly changes back to his human face and I hover over and float down beside him, sitting on the floor. He smiles and says "Hi!" and suddenly I realize that as I was approaching Bryan that my face was an alien too as I was floating up to him. He was freaked out by it too but it's this understanding we have... it seems to happen often. I am kneeling next to Bryan and telling him about the U.F.O. photo book and what me and the guy visiting me and the girl living with me are all going to do later. I suddenly am aware that I am acting in a really subservient manner. I'm like "Why am I behaving like this?" Suddenly I also realize that I may have seen Bryan as my mother as well as an alien... weird.
    I go downstairs to the garden area and am hanging out in the dried up indoor/outdoor stream with the girl that lives there and the guy visiting. We make plans to go "out on the town" and I am planning to film the whole thing with this video camera and lights that I suddenly have in my hand. Both the guy and girl have wacky backpacks on. The guy goes off to get something and I am with the girl, we are talking about how excited we are to go out on the town and film it all.

7/16/02:

    I am running around some giant outdoor city that is in the middle of a dry desert. It looks like it may be somewhere in India. It is daytime and sunny.  I seem to be running around all over the place following a film production company. They are making a movie of "Battlestar Galactica" and there is also a company filming another re-make of a "Planet of the Apes" film and also the company making the next "Star Wars" film is there too. They are shooting all these films in the desert area right outside the city. All the production companies are in these dune buggies and have these giant flat bed trucks full of lights and scaffolding and equipment and are racing all around each other trying to beat each other to the next location... kicking up lots of dust storms. It's like the first production company to each location gets to use it. I'm caught up in it all and it's totally insane. It's like the car race in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World". I see that Mark Wahlberg is around, I guess he's in the "Planet of the Apes" film. As I'm racing around the desert I can kind of "see" the poster for the "Battlestar Galactica" film and I see there are little pictures of this very moment, all the cars racing around the desert trying to film and out race one another, on the poster itself. I'm thinking "Can they do that?" It's all really manic. I get the impression that the directors are dragging the actors around and making them do stuff really fast even though they haven't slept or eaten. I think there are SAG violations happening all over the place.
    At one point, or later (away from all the racing dune buggies) I am inside this ornate Indian temple building. George Lucas is there as well as Natalie Portman... The inside is filled with lights and camera equipment... they are filming a scene from the next "Star Wars" film. It's daytime outside. I am thinking, while watching them "Wow! I'm seeing the filming of the next 'Star Wars' film first hand before anyone!" The scene I am watching is Natalie up on this kind of indoor balcony thing... and she is in a kind of futuristic traditional Indian princess outfit. She is making some kind of speech about the most beautiful jewel in all of the universe or something like that. Apparently this is part of the story. She is saying the lines; "And the diamond... with the facets... and the strands... I feel it calling me to it!" and this causes this Indian woman in a traditional robe and hood thing that covers her head except for her eyes - to jump out of this window in the temple building and scream "Aaahhhhhhh!!!" and commit suicide. Like talking about the most beautiful jewel in the universe made her go insane and kill herself. Natalie and George have stopped what they were doing and are looking at the window where the woman jumped out of. Suddenly it becomes unclear whether the woman was a character and that was her cue... or if it was a real woman on the set who just did that and really killed herself.
    Then a total scenario shift: it is night time and I am on the upper floor of a big office building... maybe in New York. I seem to be tending to this woman who looks like she's in her late twenties and who has brunette hair. She is dressed in a black velvet, short party dress and thick panty hose and black shoes. She has gold jewelry on. She is holding a beer or maybe a bottle of champagne. She is out-of-her-mind drunk and is on the floor laughing and babbling and I am trying to help her up. The glass behind her is a window and I can see down onto the night time city far below. The woman keeps laughing hysterically and refusing to get up. She seems to be happy that I am paying attention to her and doesn't really want to get up even though she's pretending to want to. She's laughing at and mocking everything. Every once in a while she takes out a little make up compact and re-applies powder to her face. I get the impression that there is an office party going on somewhere else in the office and I am trying to help her up and take her back to the party. She keeps trying to talk to me dirty and saying wild stuff like "Did you know I'm on my period right now at this very moment!?" to try and shock me and see what my reaction will be. I'm always just like "Oh yea... that's nice... un-huh... now try and stand up!"
    At one point she plops down and looks at me and says, laughing "God I have to take a dump!" I look down and see her skirt has been totally hiked up and I see her white, lace, thick pantyhose is kind of "bulbous" around her crotch. There looks like bits of pubic hair or something sticking out of the hose down there. It's really weird looking. I say to her. "It must be hard to take a dump with all those layers of panties and pantyhose and maxi pads and stuff!" and she gets this serious look on her face, but still smiling, drunk... and whips out her compact again and applies powder and takes a swig from her bottle and then looks me straight in the face and says "You know what I do after I whip all those layers of things off my ass and pussy when I'm on the toilet? I take a big steamy dump!" and I'm like "Oh yea I bet! And then you wipe with toilet paper?" and she... without missing a beat says "Yea and then I yank it and get off and dildo it and squeeze my period and pee and then yank my clit again and lick it and get off and maybe give myself a tatoo as well just because I can!" and she, still looking at me, snaps her compact shut with one hand and waits to see what my reaction will be. I look at her and say "Hmmm... sounds like a total overhaul!"

7/17/02:

   I am living in another weird urban area I don't recognize. Sometimes the area looks like a town and sometimes it looks like the inside of Collin Creek Mall in Plano, Texas. And sometimes it's a weird hybrid of the two. There is this fancy candy and chocolate store that I seem to go to by myself a lot and hang out in. All the candy in the store is wrapped in gold mylar with transparent yellow cellophane over that and tied with yellow ribbon. They have lots of different kinds of those yellow marshmallow Easter chicks there too. The store is dark wood and bronze with beige industrial carpet. There is some woman that always works there.
    I am with some guy and some girl I don't know, not in the candy store, but in another store in the weird town/mall that has these bunk beds everywhere. These two people I'm with seem fascinated by spiders. As we are hanging out and talking in a dark area near some bunk beds, we see theses series of gigantic and scary looking spiders coming down off webs and lowering themselves down onto our heads. I look up and yell "Aaagghhh! Get out of the way!" but the guy and girl are like "Cool!" and they let the spiders land on their hair and then start playing with them and discussing them with one another. They start to show me the different parts of each huge, hideous spider (as big as a giant tarantula). Suddenly their spiders turn into these weird cracked-open egg/spider things that are kind of "half born". They are embryonic spiders inside these giant ostrich-sized eggs - but the egg is cracked all the way around and you can kind of open and close it like an accordion. The two halves of the egg are held together by the gooey half embryonic half developed spider inside the egg, which is still alive and is forming. The guy and girl tell me that, at this stage, all the half-developed spider needs is another kind of full-grown spider to come along and kind of "impregnate" it a second time and then it will be fully formed and get out of the cracked-open egg. I look in on the spider and it looks like a tiny version of H. R. Giger's Alien creatures from the "Alien" movies. But it also looks like that weird alien skeleton thing looking at the weird telescope (with it's ribcage busted open from the inside) that the three characters discover on the deserted planet in the first "Alien" movie. I see half developed lungs with little membrane sacks around them... a little head... it's all curled up like an embryo. It looks dead though... like something that was kept in formaldehyde.
    Suddenly the guy looks up and says "Look! Here comes one of the spiders to impregnate our eggs!" and it starts to lower itself down from the ceiling on a web. The girl gets right under it and says "Spiders like this are attracted to hair! Let me let it land on my hair!" and she stands directly under it with a big anticipatory smile on her face. I see it getting towards her hair. The spider is huge and hideous looking, with giant, pointy legs... it looks evil. The whole thing is creeping me out so I leave and walk through the mall streets.
    I reach this area where the upper level of the mall town has this monorail that passes from one balcony/railing over to the one on the other side (with the lower level of the mall with all the fountains and shoppers below you). I get on the monorail and ride it to the other side. The track looks rickety and I'm worried that it won't support the monorail car. Just then I see Woody Allen trying to get his little boy (in the dream he seems to have a 5 year old son) into one of the cars. I look around the mall as I am riding the train and I see New York City subway signs and subway entrances inside the mall.
    Then a scenario shift, I am still in the town but seem to be going to some nightclub even being held in the old Paradise Garage space. I arrive and I walk in and my old club friend Jamie is working the door. The place doesn't look like the old Paradise space, but looks like a giant, abandoned movie theater. The Inwood Movie Theater in Dallas in particular.

Too busy to record entire dream today, here are my quick notes though:

Live in giant home, glass walls, many levels. Live there with family.

It seems Dave Doorknob had come by, had keys to house. Everyone worries that he had keys. How did he get them?

I leave. As leaving, house turns into giant police hedquarters/forensics lab. Filled with busy cops and detectives running around doing stuff.

Cops warn me about Dave having keys. Walk around house and see dimly lit rooms with miniature re-enactments of bodies secretly buried in back woods locations. All these re-enactment scenarios have little halogen spotlights over them. Many look very specific but all the grave sites on the re-enactments are dug up - no bodies. They keep going and going until it's just endless hallways of exhibits of slightly miniature re-creations of bodies buried in far back woods locations as part of unsolved murder cases on and on and on. Like a museum. Some exhibits depict elaborate caves that look like they may have had hundreds of bodies buried in cave-like burial sites - but again... all graves are dug up and empty. Very chilling.

Pass a Vietnamese woman yelling at some army men on cots - oh, it's another re-enactment as I see cops watching the exchange with clip boards and taking notes.

Go outside to my red Maserati car, parked on massive cobblestone driveway - it's night. Drive to NYC.

Park near weird gallery/trendy magazine office to pick up my sampler, for some reason. See even batter sampler in trash, can't believe someone threw it away. Take it.

Walk to to magazine/gallery. Adjust hair outside before going in. Full of people having big meeting - dressed wild, nightlife freaks. Lots of fag hags and gay guys. See Mickey Boardman. See Susan Walsh, who played Chicklette in "Female Trouble" there, dressed as princess - she's still alive and looks great. Susan pretends to get up to get water and squeals like a child. Really she was just getting up to get a closer look at me. People are nonchalantly checking me out as the receptionist arranges to get my sampler from a back room.

7/19/02:

    I am laying on the floor listening to a very old audio tape, made years and years ago, of my high school/college friend Sondra. It is day time and raining outside as I listen to the tape. On the tape she is talking about our friendship and how she feels about it. She is also talking about some of the incidents that happened between us in college. When the tape was made we were both present and I am listening to it now... far in the future, and realizing I feel differently about everything that happened. For some reason listening to the tape reminds me of that scene in the film "Klute" where Jane Fonda has a long, confessional, camera-close-up scene monologue - and she is kind of crying and a snot blob drips out of her nose. It's a riveting scene. The tape of Sondra has that intensity. I also think my old high school/college freind Heather was involved in all this somehow.
    I also think there was something where I was visiting my childhood friend Tim at The Mansion on Turtle Creek restaurant in Dallas. It was night time and we were sitting at a table next to a big window that opened up onto the night air. Tim kept having to get up and do things while we were talking and eating and after a while I got the impression he lived somewhere in the restaurant.
    Then a scenario shift:  I am in bed with Rex (from RexsWorld.com) at his mother's house in California, which I was when I was on my road trip last year. At one point we are watching videotapes in our pajamas and then we are lying next to each other, sideways, facing each other, in the bed. We are talking about really intense stuff, looking into each other's eyes. As we are talking I am looking at Rex's lips. I see that they are very full and luxurious. So much so that, while he is talking, they seem to be growing. I notice that his lips are kind of dry and flaky, but full. As we are talking my "dream camera eye" starts to move in closer and closer on his full lips... or the lips seem to be getting bigger and bigger. We are still talking but my eye moves closer and closer in on the texture of the skin on his lips... and I can still hear what he is saying. As my dream eye moves closer and closer onto his lips I see these two little dots on his lips. As I move in even closer... still hearing Rex's voice... I see that the little dots are slightly moving. I also see the surface of his lips... which now are the size of a giant wall (since my eye is moving into a microscopic level). The "wall" of his lips are now a giant, rocky cliff - although it is still his big upper lip. I get in closer and closer. I see that the two little moving dots are little human figures on his lips. I get even closer and see that the two human figures are two people scaling/rock climbing the surface of Rex's upper lip at the microscopic level (which is a giant rocky cliff to them). I look even closer and see the two figures with ropes and straps and rock climbing gear scaling the rough rocky terrain of Rex's lips are Jocelyne Wildenstein and Amanda Lepore. I hear Amanda's weird male/female voice and hear her saying something to Jocelyne like "OK now release the hook and scale down the rope... down Jocelyne... down!" or something. They are both in full make up and hair with all the equipment they have on... I think Jocelyne even has a gold evening gown on under her equipment. They seem to be having a hard time scaling Rex's lips but are both happy.
    Then a scenario shift again: I seem to be "observing" some camp out that these guys that dress like cowboys are having somewhere in the southwest American desert.. The cowboy guys have just recently arrived at their campgrounds and are setting up. There are six guys in all. Two of the guys leave the campgrounds to go find wood for the fire. When they leave the remaining four decide to play a joke on the two guys when they return. They position themselves on these logs to look like they all four have their pants down and are having an orgy. They even get their dicks out and everything and position their heads to make it look like they are all giving each other head. They don't seem to care that maybe their chin might be touching another guy's ball sack or anything... weird because they all seem very straight. They hear the two guys coming back and then they scramble to get into position. Then they pretend they are all having sex and moaning and groaning... I can see that one guy has really big balls and is laying on his back with his legs spread and another guy is on top of him facing forwards like a 69 position. His face is down by the guy's crotch and he is moving up and down... but the guy's dick is actually folded upwards and tucked in the guy's pubic hair (weird - it seems to be able to fold up)... not in the other guy's mouth. The two guys walk onto the scene and just stare like they have no idea what to say. All the sudden the four guys stop and get up and are laughing and putting their dicks back in their pants and now the two guys are laughing because they realized it was a joke.

7/20/02:

    There was something in the beginning of the dream where I was at my old college dorm and I was walking around all the old halls I used to live in. Then suddenly I am living in one and have a roommate. There was also something where I could see between this slit in an open door onto one of the hall RA's who is packing boxes in one of the dorm offices.
    There are these two guys that just happen to run down this one street that I run down. They both are young and good looking and one has a "puffy" mullet hair cut. They both have tight jeans on. As I am running I see that the street has a dead end and is actually a big alley. I realize now that the two guys mean me harm. Suddenly, there appears to be a lot of other people that happen to be running along with me - I guess I didn't see them. We are all at one end of the alley, which is blocked by a chain link fence, and we are all cowering against these two guys who are going to assault us. We are all really scared of them like they have super human powers or something. We are all talking amongst each other about what to do as we are gathered at the end of the alley. Then the two assailants disappear behind this fake brick door with a hinge that has lights and fog - real fake looking - behind it. We are all like "Huh?"
    Then the scene kind of changes... the alley is now huge and is "controlled" by the owners and editors of Vice magazine (viceland.com). They keep people they find on the streets in this alley, like a concentration camp, and come out of their offices and kill or torture people at random just for fun or when they are bored. It's a horrible situation to be in. Suddenly it seems like I have been there in that big alley (somehow trapped) for days and I'm surprised I haven't been picked off by some bored Vice receptionist or porn reviewer who comes out of the office to kill me. It is daytime now. I'm starving to death and dressed in rags. Suddenly one of the walls of the alley bursts down and out of it comes the entire staff of Vice magazine on the back of a giant tank/steamroller thing. They are wearing fluorescent orange terrorist hooded jumpsuits made of paper, and big black sunglasses and some have fake looking blond wigs on... and they are all drinking beer and laughing and saying "Look at all the prisoners scurry for their lives!!! Hahaha! Toss me another beer!" Some people get squashed under the steamroller thing and then they are stuck flat on the roller going around and around with a squashed, in-pain face like a cartoon kind of, except bloody. We are all running around... suddenly, I notice that the alley leads out onto a giant, unused highway overpass - which we can get to now because I think the steamroller knocked the fence down. I also suddenly realize we are in LA. The Vice people start throwing these big pillows that have fluorescent orange paper pillowcases on them (just like their jumpsuits). When one of the Vice people throws a pillow from the tank onto the pavement it always "bursts open" slightly from the impact and this white powder kind of puffs out (what the pillow is stuffed with). I know somehow that the powder is cocaine. TONS of it!
    Suddenly the tank really starts speeding around the alley and overpass thing and all the vice people whip out these machine guns and start firing on all us and laughing and some keep throwing pillows of cocaine on the pavement which always burst and there's smoke everywhere and it's total chaos and death and evil and insanity. I see that right over the overpass, just about 50 feet below is the crowded streets of LA - I try to run to the edge and plan to jump off and just take my chances. Suddenly I see that some of the prisoners have hot-wired this old fashioned 70's station wagon (the kind with the fake wood paneling on the side) that is all run down and are in it and try to zoom away from the steamroller and they get pretty far ahead and all the other prisoners are like "Go for it! Yea!" even as they are getting shot and the steamroller goes after it and they start shooting directly into the station wagon and throwing pillows of cocaine on the pavement behind it. I am running alongside the right of the moving station wagon towards the edge of the overpass. I look alongside in the car and see everyone has been shot dead and it's just coasting. It zooms ahead of me somehow. Suddenly I feel my back get riddled with machine gun fire. I've been shot! I go down on the sunny pavement just as the steamroller passes beside me. I look up and see everyone on the steamroller all laughing and drinking beer and brandishing guns. As I hit the pavement I think "These Vice magazine people are out of control! They are so powerful! They control the whole city... it is impossible to convict them of any crimes because they have big ties to Cuban cocaine dealers and the mafia." The steam roller speeds away from me and off into the city probably to a wild party or something.
    As I lay on the pavement I realize that I can only move my arms. I try to "flap" my arms to get to the edge of the overpass and "flip" myself over it. Maybe if I do I will land and not die and maybe someone will help me. I try to "flap" my arms to move myself but it's really hard. I realize that I'm having a really hard time breathing - short quick breaths. I think I am going to die... I am thinking "So this is what it feels like to be shot by a machine gun." It's terrifying to think I am going to die. I begin to think of that footage of that kid at the Columbine High School killings that was caught on video trying to toss his bloody, dying body (that had been shot by Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold) out of a 2nd story broken window - even though he could only move one arm and one leg, and he eventually fell out the window and the cops ran to him and saved him. I feel like that kid in the video.

    Don't remember much. I think I was in some cluttered room at one point... and there was this tall older man looking at me and putting a large bread stick into a little toaster oven that was on top of a bed. The oven was on and glowing orange/yellow with heat on the inside.

7/22/02:

    I am living in some gigantic house in some place I don't know. I live in the house with my family, grandmother. At one point I think everyone is getting ready for some big party we are having at the house or something. It's the day time. I am making plans to drive with my grandmother to the local Target store to buy something before the party. It seems like we have just enough time to drive there and back before the party starts. I keep walking with my grandmother to the car outside and then realizing I forgot something and having to go back inside. At one point my dad meets me at this porch part of the house and lays whatever it is I was needing on this glass table and asks me something, what I don't know. Then my brother decides to go with us and walks out to the car.
    Then a total scenario shift: I seem to be in a similar house next door - and I think live there too - with my teenage friends Katy and Sondra - and their respective families. There was something at one point where I was on the phone with Sondra, who was in another part of the house. I am talking to her and I am holding up this giant circle that is made from crispy fried egg. You know when you fry an egg too long in a pan and it gets crispy and transparent around the edges? I have this large, flat circle that seems to be made entirely out of that. I am holding it up to the light coming from the window as I talk to Sondra. I seem to be telling her things that she is apparently impressed with. As I talk to her and look at the transparent crispy fried egg disc, I kind of "see" into the future and observe Sondra telling Katy that I was bragging about stuff on the phone and trying to impress her.
    Then it seems to be later at night and I am still in the big house next door with Sondra and Katy. We are in the large basement of the house - which is carpeted (plush orange/beige) and has wood paneling on the walls like a recreational room. There seems to be some plan to go eat at this fancy restaurant across the street. It is very late at night and apparently the restaurant is open very late. I can kind of "see" the restaurant and the front of it looks like that trendy, plush restaurant used in the TV show "The Simpsons" sometimes called The Pimento Grove (Selma and Troy McClure dined there in one episode). It looks like a live version of that animated restaurant, and it's name is not The Pimento Grove, it's "Oz".
    We seem to all want to go to the restaurant, me and Sondra and Katy... but for some reason we aren't "allowed" to leave the basement of the home... or the home itself. I don't know what entity or authority is keeping us from leaving, it just is. Katy comes up with the idea to set off the fire alarm in the house. She says that this will cause all the sprinklers to go off and the sirens will blare and we will be able to leave the house because it will seem like it's an emergency. Then while the fire department comes and is straightening everything out, we can go across the street and eat. So we all get ready to leave and Katy is getting ready to set off the alarm. She looks at these stacks of record albums in the hallway of the entrance to the basement and says "Those are all going to get wet Mark." I look down and see that it is MY record collection from when I was younger. Katy bends down and holds her hand about three inches off the ground and says "The water will get about this high off the carpet by the time the sprinklers are done going off... so these will get all soaked." I get down and start frantically arranging the albums so they won't get wet. there are hundreds of them. I am carrying big handfuls of them down into the basement and placing them all up on high surfaces, and then I plan to cover them in plastic so they don't get wet. I realize we are pressed for time and I wonder if I'm going to have time to do all this before the sprinklers go off.

    No real dreams last night. But yesterday afternoon I took a nap (which I rarely do) and had a dream that I was installing a screen door on my bedroom door (leading from my bedroom to the living room). I also was installing some kind of neon sign on the door, and I was having trouble finding somewhere to plug the sign in.*

7/26/02:

    I am at some school that has lots of levels and rooms. It seems like the school may be underground because I never see any windows and everything is always lit by artificial light. The school is immense... it looks like a massive underground compound. Maybe it's a giant living community and not just a school.
    There was some part of the dream where I was walking around parts of the school that look like a mall and I was trying to avoid a killer who was on the loose. I am in an elevator and I am going from floor to floor in the school/mall area. The area is not crowded at all and as the elevator doors open on each floor I am scared that the killer is going to get on the elevator with me and kill me once the doors shut. I have no idea what the killer looks like. I get off on this one floor that has a giant indoor pool with the water reflecting on the gold, ornate walls. A man starts following me around the edges of the pool, trying not to be seen. The man is kind of fat with a light blue tucked-in button down shirt, jeans, a pepper gray curly beard and short-ish hair and round, wire rim glasses. I am worried he is the killer. I am trying to avoid him and I suddenly run into some girl I know (in the dream only) and we start talking... this makes the man disappear.
    Then suddenly a scenario change. I am driving around outdoors at night time in a red Ferrari convertible (?) in some unknown place. Someone who I don't really see is driving, and I am in the passenger's seat. The wind is whipping through our hair. The night is inky black... we can't see beyond what the head lights are shining on on the road, or to the right or left of us. I get the impression that we may be driving in the south west USA. We come upon this group of about fifteen teenage guys who are all sitting around this big, rectangular green "this-many-miles to your destination" road sign on the right side of the road... all sitting around a battery operated lantern. Their hair styles and clothes make them look like they are all from the 1970's. They all quietly look up at us as we stop and pull up next to them. It seems that they are out here in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere waiting to attend some kind of class that is going to be held in a nearby 7-11 store.
    Suddenly me and whoever was driving the car are in the 7-11 store as the class is going on. All the boys are gathered around the cashier counter and are listening to the instructor explain something. The fluorescent light is shining on everything and you can see the black night time outside through the front glass window. I think it is very, very late at night. Me and my friend (who I still can't really see) are just wandering around the store quietly looking at stuff as the class goes on. I get this funny impression that I, as a person, represent what the instructor is teaching the young boys. I think the instructor keeps pointing to me as he teaches and saying things like "...and that's how you will end up like this guy!" and all the boys look at me. It's strange.
    Then a weird scenario shift: we are still in a class, my friend is gone, but we are not in the 7-11 anymore - we are in a traditional classroom in the underground complex. The instructor is Camille Paglia. She is walking slowly  between the rows of desks we are sitting in, clicking her shoes as she walks, and talking to us about some famous romance novel by some 18th century English author that is about adultery. I can kind of "see" a portrait painting of the novelist (who looks like Sigmund Freud) as she is talking. I don't know who the author is or what the book is. I feel like Camille is starting to direct questions to me about the book after I draw attention to myself. Suddenly, a weird shift: I see a spider coming down from a web from the ceiling and landing on a girl's back. Then suddenly the classroom is empty except for that spider... which is still lowering itself on the web. No one, not even me, is in there. Just the spider.

7/27/02:

    There is some thing where I am in Romainville, France and I am doing something with Guillaume and the Director of Culture of Romainville, Vincent. Romainville looks totally different, it is this single, narrow dirt road that has all these white buildings along it... that come right up to the edge of the road with no yard - it's very claustrophobic. When there is a break in the buildings you can see beyond and into the beautiful countryside outside of Paris. Guillaume and Vincent and I are in some church. The inside is white walls and bare hardwood floors - very minimal. I keep going upstairs into one of the church's towers and switching the panes of colored glass in one of the windows and Vincent keeps telling me what he thinks of it. Then I leave and walk back down the road in the direction I came - to what I think is the airport. The buildings in this side of town are older and there are less of them... and they don't come up right to the edge of the road. I get the impression that this part of town is not in France but is in America somewhere... maybe Colorado. It seems like the further I go down the road in the direction I came in, the further back to somewhere I go... like walking into the past or back to a place or mental state I lived in in the past. I am now on what seems like a little golf cart and have arrived at what looks like a crude airport. It seems my parents have arrived in whatever place this is... the road... and I am meeting them here before they go to their hotel. I decide to take them down the road to France. We drive along in the cart and I am pointing to things in Romainville and explaining things to the. It seems like I am exaggerating things and making them seem more grand than they are just to impress them. Sometimes we are in a car, sometimes we are in a little golf cart and sometimes we seem to be going along the road on a ski lift which runs in the center of the road.

7/28/02:

    I am living in some weird town with all this strange, modern architecture. The city seems to be surrounded by desert... like maybe Las Vegas... but it's not. There are a lot of buildings with massive rooms and giant glass walls and interiors that are heated with huge air conditioners. There are also lots of courtyards with running decorative pools in them. The sun is always shining really brightly on the concrete in the courtyards.
    Then a shift: it is night and I seem to be inside some house... there is a party going on filled with people I don't know. The house looks like a typical suburban home from the 70's... flat, with wood tile roofs and a brick facade. I keep telling these people at the party that I am going to make a pair of shorts out of a bunch of pages that I cut out of a magazine. I start cutting pages out of this men's fashion magazine and start arranging them on myself like a pair of shorts. I am out in the front yard of the house. Some fat woman with short blond hair keeps coming in and out of the house, holding a drink in her hand, to see how I'm doing making the paper shorts... so she can report about it to the people inside. There are a few people outside in the yard. It seems that people have been talking and daring me to wear the shorts out on some deserted road outside of town... in only the shorts and nothing else... and try to thumb a ride from a trucker. I take them up on it and make plans to do it. I keep making the shorts.
    Then it's the next day... I don't have on the paper shorts made from magazine pages. I have normal clothes on and am riding my bike around the downtown area of the city. Lots of office buildings with glass walls like in Jaques Tati's "Playtime", and the streets are all gray concrete like London. My bike is a yellow and black mountain bike. I think I have a professional lycra biking uniform on and goggles. I go into one of the office buildings looking for a kitten to buy. I think the reason I was riding around was to find a kitten (apparently they are for sale in any office building in the town - like everyone has some). I walk inside and the lobby is an antique store with some faggy guy working there. He has these two big cardboard tubes and he dumps the contents of both of them out on this landing - there is a black kitten in each tube. They are so cute I decide to take one.
    I go back home and my apartment is this little cube studio high in a high-rise apartment building. two of the major walls are glass and look down onto the city. I have a birdcage hanging in the main room. I am playing with the kitten. At some point the kitten seems to be miniaturized and I have it inside the bird cage... plus it doesn't look like a kitten any more... it's this little black thing with black feathers... like a newly born baby bird. I keep trying to feed it by putting these little pellets into this little dish. It seems that I can only "observe" the bird/kitten through this cheap plastic magnifying glass that kind of pops out of the little feeding dish. It's hard to look at the creature... I am worried about it.
    Then I dreamed that I read an article in the paper about how Madonna was flown to Australia to film a pepsi commercial and ended up refusing to do it because the commercial consisted of her pretending to sing a concert inside an empty arena (because no one wanted to see her) and then a giant bucket of "new" Pepsi gets dumped on her and a voice over says... "You're so tired... not even the power of New Pepsi can make you interesting. Your career is over but New Pepsi's isn't! Buy New Pepsi!". She refused to do it and there was a big article about the tantrum she threw at the arena set when she found out what the commercial consisted of.

    I forgot most of my dream after I woke up this morning. There was something about a room that had all these 80's style venetian blinds on the windows. There was a woman in a business suit pointing to something that was floating in the air in the middle of the room. She's looking at me. I think the woman was Mary Woronov. There was a lot to the dream but that's all I can remember.

7/30/02:

    I'm in some kind of weird, darkly lit room with people I don't know. The room looks kind of round and the floor is made of gravel. I get the feeling that I am inside one of those playground things - like a giant metal egg you could crawl into and it was all echo-y inside and the gravel from the playground bed was the floor of the inside of the egg or whatever the plaything was in the shape of. Only the sunlight coming in from the opening would light the place up... I don't know if they still make those.
    Anyway... I'm in this weird round room like that with these people and everyone's attention is kind of looking to this weird window that's up on the round wall. It looks like a starfish window but the arms of the starfish are very skinny and there are lots of them and the glass isn't transparent but looks like the glowing color you get between your fingers when you hold a flashlight directly up behind your clasped hand. Like the window is made of thin flesh and there is a bright light right on the other side of it. The more I look at the weird window and everyone's attention is directed on it... I realize that the window is a giant asshole and we are inside a giant, hollow human ass. My "dream camera eye" kind of moves outside of the ass through the asshole and as it does I head one of the people's voices inside the ass say "Wow! It turns out that the entire universe as we know it actually exists inside a human ass... and the only way out of it - into another dimension - is to go out the asshole!" I travel outside the asshole and am suddenly in this surreal looking cartoon environment with green grass and a blue sky. There are all these weird looking cartoon-like people walking around the environment that all look exactly alike. They have these weird long heads with black ears like a Mickey Mouse hat and they have really big asses that seem to float upwards like balloons. Inside each one of these asses exists another parallel dimension. I'm like "Wow."

7/31/02:

    I am at some indoor party in some building I don't recognize, in a town I don't know. the building has all kinds of hallways and rooms lit dimly with colored lights. All the walls in the building are made of white drywall. It's night time outside. There are lots of people in the building at the party and lots of separate little parties in different rooms of the building. Big echo-y rooms. A lot of the people at the party seem like rich, fake arty types and fashion industry hanger-ons. Everyone is dressed in expensive clothes. At one point I am following this girl with this wacky asymmetrical bob haircut and a corset and ballerina tutu out to this fire escape area. For some reason when I am with this girl I somehow know she has a really nice car... like a red Ferrari or something.  We start to get outside and I see that it is miraculously sunny and daytime out on the fire escape. Also it looks like the fire escape leads out onto ground level where there is a lush garden. I see these mexican guys sitting out there smoking from bongs and waving at me. The girl is like "Come on Mark!"
    Then a total scenario shift: I'm at a Bette Midler concert in a big indoor theater. I know it's still night time outside and I think it might be the same night of the party. I get the feeling I'm around the same people and in the same town. Bette come out onto the stage in this elaborate costume that looks like a giant purple velvet queen's cape with leopard trim and some kind of wacky hair/crown construction on her head. She has a microphone and starts wandering around the audience making jokes about everybody. Soon she gets back onstage and starts telling this story about this girl she met backstage just before she comes on. She says that this girl introduced herself to Bette as a fan and started telling her that she too was a performer, and asked Bette if she could give her a demo video cassette of her performance. Bette is acting all sarcastic and saying "So I said to her 'Oh yea honey... mmmhmmm ...sounds great... oh performer... un-huh... oh yea, just throw the tape in my bag there... OK... bye-bye! Good luck!'" and then she goes on to say how people are approaching her all the time like this and it can be kind of awkward and difficult to deal with them sometimes and the best thing to do is be nice and indulge them but don't make any promises. Then Bette goes "Oh my God! Then I looked at the tape in my dressing room! Oh my God! This woman's insane!" a video projector starts to project the video the girl gave her behind Bette as she talks about it. The video is edited like a rock video and shows the girl licking and sucking on these purple transparent plastic dildos with multi-colored condoms over them. I recognize the girl as the same one at the party who led me out onto the fire escape. In the video the girl then starts giving blow jobs to real guys and then more and more and it''s all edited into this pattern that keeps repeating itself and splitting the screen into smaller and smaller divisions and the individual pieces keep getting smaller and smaller and the whole thing starts swirling and eventually forms a Mendelbrot "chaos theory " fractal pattern.
